He recently was interviewed by Chris Anderson during the Ted 2023 conference. During the one-on-one discussion, Chew explain his vision of social media environment, his app and how it has affected consumers.

Chew emphasized TikTok's commitment to address concerns raised by the House Energy and Commerce Committee, particularly regarding child safety, data security, and China's influence on the app.

Due to security concerns related to its Chinese owners, Biden administration has threatened to ban TikTok in the United States. Critics argue that TikTok poses a national security threat due to its data collection capabilities, with a significant portion of its user base consisting of teenagers and young adults.

During the interview, Anderson asked Chew if he could guarantee that TikTok would not allow Chinese government interference in U.S. elections. Chew responded by stating that the company is developing the necessary tools to prevent such actions from occurring.

Chew also revealed that TikTok is making significant progress with Project Texas, a plan to store U.S. data on American soil in collaboration with the Texas-based cloud company Oracle. This initiative is aimed at addressing concerns about data security and further enhancing TikTok's commitment to user privacy and national security.
